For those who do not have the ability to travel into the Himilayas or trek into the mountains where they can take part of nature and wildlife, they can still get a sample of these experiences by visiting America’s zoos. Many zoos have gone to great expense and spent a lot of time creating a beautiful and exotic environment for their visitors to take part in. And many of these places have earned their place as “most memorable.” Below are five zoos that are worth exploring.

Worth The Trip

Philadelphia Zoo located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This zoo opened after the American Civil War and was chartered in 1859, which makes it one of the oldest zoos in America. It’s family friendly and boasts a collection of over 1,300 animals. Its age makes it a historic site and it has gained a significant amount of notoriety within the U.S. This establishment sites on over 42 acres of land which means that its visitors normally plan to stay for an entire say. Its most popular exhibits are the lion, jaguars, Big Cat Falls, tigers and the Rare Animal Conservation Center.

Cincinnati Zoo located in Cincinnati, Ohio

The Cincinnati Zoo is the second zoo in the U.S. It was founded in 1875. This zoo has an incredible collection of endangered plants and species including Indian rhinos, macaws, Brazilian ocelots as well as cheetahs. It has earned a reputation for its breeding programs.

Fort Worth Zoo located in Fort Worth, Texas

This zoo was started in 1909 and has been deemed the top zoo in the nation. It hosts over 350 different species from continents all over the world. However, one of its most prized possessions is its native fauna and flora of Texas. In has an exhibit called Texas Wild!, in which visitors can learn more about diverse wildlife as well as get know more about history through a town recreation from the 1900′s.


Lion Country Safari located in West Palm Beach, Florida

Lion Country Safari allows its visitors to travel though in their own vehicle and pass through over 5 miles of road. Visitors can comfortable move at their own pace. Though the more high risk animals, such as chimpanzees and lions are contained within a fenced in area, giraffes and zebras are free to roam about. In some cases, these animals may cause you to wait as they rest in the middle of the road. This zoo also offers fun carnival rides.

Columbus Zoo located in Columbus, Ohio

This zoo has a reputation that is worldwide and next to none. It was opened in 1927 and was guided into fame under the direction of Jack Hanna, animal expert. It has over 7,000 animals and has recently added a golf resort, water park and amusement park to its campus.

There is no shortage of amazing zoos in this country. Some go the traditional route and include only animals in their displays. While others create a more extensive learning environments that promote education, fun and relaxation.
